Developing Skills for Sustainability Change Agents with a Participatory Backcasting Teaching Toolbox

Resource: Developing Skills for Sustainability Change Agents with a Participatory Backcasting Teaching Toolbox

This paper describes and analyzes a participatory backcasting teaching toolbox (PBTT) designed to develop skills required for sustainability change agents. The PBTT contains twelve modules and includes critical and systems thinking, future orientation, ability to work in trans-disciplinary frameworks, personal involvement, conflict resolution and consensus building. It further describes how the PBTT effects the development of students’ skills, as observed throughout ten teaching cases and discusses the potentials and limitations of the PBTT for building up sustainable development related skills.
